“Encore Films are beyond thrilled that the Canada International Film Festival jury recognised the efforts of all the talented actors, dancers and crew, all the inspirational make-up and costume designers and choreographers, and so many of the other gifted people, involved in the production of our Tchaikovsky docudrama,” says filmmaker Ian Woodward. “The Canada International Film Festival receives thousands of entries each year from more than a hundred countries, which makes the award bestowed on Love Song all the sweeter.”

The CIFF is dedicated to the creation of opportunities for the artistic interaction and exchange among independent filmmakers and the film-going community. To quote the event’s glossy brochure: “Festival-goers create their own experience with everything from Canadian and World Premiers to intimate gatherings and nightly parties. Each year the festival opens with a filmmaker reception allowing the creators of these wonderful films to interact with each other and the festival-going audiences. The festival culminates with the closing Awards Ceremony honoring the important work of some of today’s brightest and most creative artists.”

A highlight of the festival are the packed-out discussion programmes with some of today’s leading filmmakers, writers and actors on their latest projects appearing at the CIFF. Each moderated discussion features an in-depth question and answer session with audience participation. These exclusive conversations and panels dissect the making of some of the festival’s most provocative films and the minds behind their creation. Attendees can learn first-hand from the filmmakers about the art and business of cinema.
